How to Decorate A Large Living Room
When there is a large living room in a house, its sometimes difficult to decorate that massive space properly. Large spaces, just like small spaces, can sometimes present some decorating troubles. If you are face with a large living room and dont quite know how to proceed, here are some tips to keep in mind to get you started.
Use Dark Colors to Decorate
When you use dark colors when decorating, the space will appear smaller. Something simple like painting the walls of the living room a few shades darker than you normally would will cause the room to look smaller.
If youre not looking for the entire room to appear smaller, you can give it less of a large feeling by using darker colors to accessorize. By using dark-colored furniture or even carpet in your large living room, youll make the room feel slightly smaller and not so big and open.
Use the Space in the Living Room Accordingly
Depending on how large your living room is, youre going to want to plan out the space accordingly. So, for instance, youre not going to want to put all the seating right on top of each other. You want to be sure to space your solid wood furniture out so that it looks evenly distributed across the room. Another thing to remember is to leave plenty of space between the couch and the oak coffee table. This way, people will be able to walk between the two. When you plan accordingly and utilize the space properly in a large room, youll be able to create a room that feels more comfortable and quaint, and not too cold and open.
Use Large Pieces of Art to Decorate the Walls
When choosing pieces of art for your walls, you need to consider the area of blank space that you have. A 5×7 picture, for instance, isnt going to work well hanging alone on a very large blank wall in your living room. Rather, hang a portrait or some other piece that will take up most of the upper half of the wall. Another option is to use several smaller art pieces to make a pattern or collage for the wall. Do be sure, however, to space the artwork out so that the majority of the wall is covered.
Buy a Large Piece of Furniture
If you dont already have one, you may want to consider purchasing a large piece of furniture for your living room. An entertainment center, a bookshelf, or a large couch would work well, or you might even look for something like a piano or pool table.
When you place a large piece of furniture in a large room, it will make things appear smaller and more in proportion. You can also use this oversized furnishing as a focal point and decorate the rest of the room around it.
When it comes to decorating a large living room, you need to focus on properly utilizing the space in the room. When you dont use enough of the room, you end up with a room that looks massive and not so appealing. However, if you use the entire space, including the walls, your large living room will be more appealing and even perhaps have a quaint and comfortable feel.
